Why this birthday was the best one yet (Giving and Getting)

This birthday I spent the whole afternoon in bed (YUP), and spent the night with my family and my very bestfriend’s in the world (with the exception of Kelley- who’s a bastard for being in Norway) – Of the 21st birthdays I’ve had, and of the half that I remember, this one has to be my favourite.

I was surrounded by so much love today that It felt tangible.  Do you ever feel so happy that you want to cry? Today was just one of those days.  Sometimes I look around at the people I have in my life and think that there’s nothing I’ve done to deserve them.  Mom, Dad, if you ever read this, I hope you know that I’m grateful beyond measure for you both, and that I’d have to write an alphabetized series of novels to properly thank you for all that you’ve done for me.

If the title of this blogpost isn’t somewhat of a giveaway, I’m a twin.  My twin happens to be my bestfriend and simultaneously the best person that’s ever been born (And I mean ever).  We were talking the other day and we realized that most people don’t share their birthday with another person the way we do, giving them a day that’s filled solely with receiving.  I was blessed with the honour of giving and getting on my birthday, and I think that’s the best part about it.  It’s taught me a lot, and the excitement of receiving my birthday gifts are dampened only by the excitement of giving my bestfriend hers.

Today was one for the books, a day I’ll always be grateful for.  I avoided the mid-life crisis type breakdown that I was certain I’d have, was surrounded by more love than I deserve, and the gold 64 gb ipad mini, 2 dozen red roses, inscribed vintage jewelry box, little miss sunshine mug, tea and tea steeper, watermelon keg kit, mac cosmetics, scented candles, little getaway, and envelope full of money didn’t hurt much either.

Till next time friends,
-Shay
